S-L Hyspeed windlass

Hello there,

I have just bought a second hand Simpson Lawrence Hyspeed manual windlass.
I have seen that the transmission of the torque from the handle to the shaft is by way of two bicycles type chains. I have read somewhere that these where prone to brake.

Has anyone out there any experience of this windlass?

Yes. There are several threads about this winch going back a year or two. What specifically are you after? One lesson learned - if you are replacing the chains, go to Halfords - about £4.99 as opposed to £23 ish from SL!

As SL no longer exist, they were taken over by SWMF who then went broke, try Lewmar.
