One of my Ryobi Lithium battery packs has failed. It no longer charges.
Has anyone replaced the batteries?
These are expensive units, so I'm thinking of having go at repairing it.
Any hints or useful insights?1000011546.jpg

Not much to be lost by opening it up to see if it's a dead cell, bad connection, etc. Replacing cells isn't rocket science if you're good with a soldering iron.

Word of caution- I had a knock off Ryobi battery short out on me when the little springs for the clips on the side managed to penetrate the tiny layer of insulating foam that was the only thing between them and the cells. It's a bit scary how much heat is generated by shorting out even a small power tool battery.

I have one similar which is a bit doubtful in capacity. (A cheaper knock off) I have not opened it up yet. Failure to charge will indicate a bad cell. There will be 5 cells or if it is a large capacity 10 cells. All 18650 size. However they will have nickel tags spot welded to them. Set into a frame to hold cells.
You will probably find one cell (or pair) at low voltage less than 3v. That will be the bad one. If it is a pair you will need to separate them one may be ok but will need separate charging. The charge controller will shut down charge and discharge if one cell becomes significantly different in voltage to others.
Yes worth a try to replace. Using a large hot soldering iron you may be able to do a quick attach of a wire or tag. Don't buy cheap Ultrafire cells. ol'will
