I\'m not speaking FOR anyone

This is my understanding of the RYA position based on their declared intentions and interview/converstions with Rod Carr and George Clark.

I am not an 'official spokesman' or PR agent for the Association

No offence taken

Dinna fret!

No need for embarrassment.

I only decided to post because I felt the lack of an official RYA posting needed to be explained. Also the Magazine which which I am involved was being quoted.

Sorry if I sounded aggressive, or worse, pompous

I have been an RYA member for many years availing myself of the resultant discounts and reading the magazine but not actually calling upon their services as such.

Earlier in the autumn that changed when I bought a new boat and had cause to consult their legal department. I have rarely had service like it - ever. They were superb - a credit to the organistation and to the sport.

Had I had to go to a solicitor I would probably have had less experienced and well founded advice, possibly with the poor service so typical of solicitors and it would certainly have cost me several years worth of RYA Membership.

I consider my membership excellent value for money.

Ed

PS. I have no connection with RYA in any way except as a personal member

Legal services

I called them up as well when I was buying my boat. I asked for draft purchase / sale contracts as I was not buying via a broker. I got them in the post the following day. I wasn't asked for my membership number either.
