In the past this forum has speculated as to why the RYA Magazine ignores motor-boating. This month I am pleased to note that the magazine has two whole pages entitled Motor Cruising, the first page is dedicated to go-faster racing and the second page is dedicated to RIBs. The only conclusion I can reach is that the RYA hasn't a clue as to what Motor Cruising is.
The RYA directions catalogue that is described as "the RYA joins forces with some of the UK's leading suppliers" appears to be nothing more than the usual Compass products, even the RYA logo'd clothing is worn by the usual unshaven German. Why can't the RYA support a Britih firm, it would be an ideal forum to bring together small manufacturers who can't afford to advertise or take a stand at the boat shows.

Sombody has seen the light! I signed up for the power and rib festival in the I.O.W earlier in the year, but alas a few weeks before the event, got a letter saying it had to be cancelled due to lack of interest. somehow i dont think it was due to that as the only ad is saw for it was in the sportsboat comic. so it wer,nt lack of interest, just that people did,nt know it was happening!

Unless I,ve been doing it all wrong for the past twelve years or so. Is not the whole point in having a boat, to be able to go off in your own motorised country cottage, free of yellow lines, majic roundabouts, trafic jams and blokes in white coats or uniforms.
I mean we dont ring the RAC and say. Err hello where are we all driving to today please. Or do some people!
So what do we want the RYA to do for us. Now if I wanted somebody to race against, its understandable. But motor cruiser racing! I cant see the need for that. Just give the cup to him at the end with the bigest engine.
No the only thing there going to do for us. Is get together with the brussel sprouts and make rules for us and more and more courses for us all to go on. Inventing a masive industry where none was before. Well lets face it, its happend.
Na I'm quite happy being an individual and they can close the RYA down for me.

They have actually fought brussels over a few things in our favour! They also got the funding which brought home a fair amount of medals from the olympics, now I think about it!

Tend to agree but I do believe that they fought to retain the red diesel concession which is of real value to all of us that have a diesel engine.

My mag also arrived this a.m. and was very disappointed in the power content or rather lack of it.

How come the RYA are doing Yellow Code inspections on commercial boats - aren't they supposed to be representing their members against the increased stupidities of the MCA?

Our ilustrious government (or lack of it) will only consider talking to national bodies where boating is concerned. Therefore the only one that can fight for us is the RYA. If you want further representation for motor boaters. Join up and use your vote to appoint people that share your views. Its the only way we will avoid Brussels ruling the waves.
