Rusty stainless under plastic covering

This is my boarding ladder looking very manky. So do I just cut the covering off, clean up as best I can? The covering is to protect the sugar scoop when the ladder is down. What would be best to protect the scoop - something on the ladder or on the scoop?

Why not cut off the plastic and do a 'whipping' where it can touch - I've done this on my spinnaker pole where it touched a stanchion. I like the West Country whipping.

My ladder had clear reinforced hose as one uses for drain to heads & kitchen sink etc. It will need to be 1 inch or 25mm internal bore which should be obtainable from the chandler at Maldon

A thick rubber strip bonded to the hull at the contact points of the ladder on the sugar scoop would be better. Recovering the stainless is to invite continued crevice corrosion.

How does one glue it to the boat & fold it over the corner?

Remove the plastic and machine polish the stainless. No problem.

It's flexible. I'd guess Sikaflex 291 would do for bonding. Other rubber mats/strips are available.

But that is not an instant grab- or is it?- so if one bent the sheet round the angle it would spring off before it set

To protect the corner of the GRP ?? I do not know the set up on a Moody but before I removed it my one , when in the down position, lay against the rounded corner of the small sugar scoop. That was the bit that needed protecting.

There are many different rubber strips/mats available of varying flexibility, so it would be down to the buyer's judgement. I don't think you need an instant grab adhesive when adhesive tape can be used to temporarily hold curing sections of rubber in place. I would think that an instant grab adhesive would be the wrong stuff when you're trying to work something over a compound curve.

It's lucky that the hoses were clear and the damage could be noticed.
