Rusty sails

Having read this months Question of the Month I would be interested to hear from anyone who has managed to remove rust stains from sails and what they used. I have a couple of rust stains on my genoa which came with the boat when purchased a couple of years ago, the sail cloth is fine it just needs to have the stains removed. All comments received with thanks.

Rub a lemon on them & wash off with fresh water.

Oxalic acid is the best solution for cleaning sails, it will clean rust, and just about anything else. Used to get it from boots in 1kg packets, (dissolve in warm water) then it got put on a "list" of suspect ingredients (terrorism etc) so I had to buy it in 5kg quantities from the internet. I think you can still get it from a good builders merchant.

Maybe, but you can suck the lemon afterward or put it in your G&T.

Stain Devil for rust is easy to get hold of. Tesco and Asda usually have it.
