Rusting Injectors on Peugeot Engine

As someone who has been sailing for most of my life but recently “swallowed the anchor” and purchased a Motorhome, I am seeking the help and advice of the PBO community.

My new Motorhome is based on the latest Peugeot/Fiat base unit which suffer from severe water ingress into the engine compartment through a deep scuttle which is as watertight as dried out old clinker lifeboat. The water actually pours in and covers the top of the engine. The result being that the high grade steel injectors are sitting in puddles of water. Due to the fact that the cylinder head is aluminium, there is a growing concern that the injectors will be impossible to remove due to the various corrosion processes which will be going on such as rusting of the steel, oxidation of the aluminium and possible electrolysis between dissimilar metals.

Peugeot have surrounded themselves with an impenetrable “Wall of Silence” the only comment being that “the problem is just cosmetic” All the dealers will say is that they will give the engine a couple of squirts of WD40 and all will be well. Details of this saga can be found under the following link

web page

Any words of advice/experience in trying to remove rusty injectors from aluminium cylinder heads which have been subject to corrosion would be welcome. Also, we have started an online petition which will be presented to Fiat / Peugeot at the NEC Caravan Exhibition. You can log onto the petition and see the general level of dissatisfaction from people like myself who are trying to resolve this problem. The link to the petition is

Any help, guidance or advice on any of the above would be most welcome.

Regards
John

Wish I had never sold my Westerly

Silicone oil is far more effective at keeping water away than WD40. Lidl periodically have aerosols at 99p. A build up of carbonised mineral oil can make removal of injectors difficult.

Prevention is better than cure. Spray the top of the engine every few months pending a cure. Seemingly there is a design problem here and there can be problems with the injectors being stuck in the aluminium heads of the 2.2 litre 16 valve engine also. This is a different engine family however.

In a past life I had to deal with ali & steel parts running together in a wet environment and I used a special Molyslip grease, I never had seizing problems BUT they also weren't running hot ~ so I'm not sure if molyslip would work.

You could try copper-slip?

But which ever method you use it will almost certainly mean you removing the injectors to allow you to coat them in grease ~ not the tips.

Sorry I can't offer more advice.

Peter.

First of all thanks for the advice you gave me several years ago on my two Peugeot engines. It has proved very useful. Sorry to see you have given up the boat.
It seems that the design is not 'fit for purpose' and starting an action against Peugeot or the distributor might get a result. You could try your local consumer protection people who, in this area, are very good.
It is not a problem that you should have to sort yourself.
