No such thing as the English National anthem is there?
God Save the Queen is the NA of the UK, Jocks and Taffs have their own, but England doesn't as far as I know. . . . . . /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
I don't care where I live Pauline. Been travelling the globe since I was 15. I am proudly British, I am just not English. "Rebellious Scots to overthrow" why should we want that in our National Anthem. Nah, you guys can keep it to yourselfs. Bloody boring dirge anyhow.
Anyway, you lost. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
I agree it sounds like a dirge, and only the first verse is sung now and I for one am proud to sing it. And I would never criticise another country's anthem - it's a very personal and patriotic thing.
You've obviously never been to Scotland Pauline - like Scousers the Scots adore their homeland but prefer living just about anywhere else! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Billy Connolly , who I might add is destined to become king of Scotland, said that the National anthem should be replaced with the theme from the archers, now that would liven things up a bit.
not on todays performance. Ireland against Wales at Cardiff. Got to fancy the Taffs really. As long as they don't give away as many stupid penalties as England did.
After this weekends matches, I'd have to say Wales (but I would, wouldn't I!)
Wales have built up huge confidence now, and are playing an adventurous attacking game, but have huge defensive reserves when under pressure as evidenced in last 5 minutes of Sat game
Ireland were looking rather jaded and unadventurous. They have a solid team with a lot of experience which always counts for a lot, but the Welsh team have over the past several years had the old timers weeded out, and young talent nurtured, which is now starting to pay dividends
Not to mention that Wales are playing on home turf, and the welsh supporters are going to be in full blood. Don't know if you remember games there in the 70's when Welsh team was full of legends, but the opposing teams used to comment on how intimidating entering the stadium was when the welsh supporters were in full voice - it was like hitting a wall of sound. I rather suspect Ireland are going to feel that effect.
Sincerely hope you are right but I can't see how we are going to be competitive in the lineouts even on our own throw.
How come you support the taffs, with a name like Brendan ? You're not a mole are you , trying to make us overconfident ?
P.S. We have of course to beat the Scots first so lets not look too far ahead.
