hm, same here, this is exactly how the last copper-based idea happend. I think it's an excellent idea. Also, taking the propellor off and chucking that in as well - why wouldn't that work? AND we let the nerks at that boat yard take all the copper away, dammit...

The steel will go to copper but if the steel is already plated in copper and is therefore in electrical contact and not conducting through seawater where does it go?

Yep, it's called cathodic protection. There are many available on the market, of which Mercury's Mercathode is an example.

Could you have them enamelled, seems to be a very tough coating for steel baths and mugs etc
