RTIR...who's in?

We'll be at the pre-race party in Cowes on Friday. Early night (2am)then a 0540 start. Back in Cowes by 3ish then off to the after party.

Yogi, First 27.7 silver green 06:00 start. Moving down to Port Hamble Friday evening because Banana Wharf is opening at 3am Saturday to do bacon butties. Random scratch crew so hoping for manageable conditions and preferably the forecast NNW at the start so we can reach down to Hurst under Assymetric Spinnaker.

I wish you all a great day's sailing.

Chris

"Kalula" alloy J51, weve just finished a refit on her, new deck, paint etc.

We have a terrible rating, looks like we need to finish a hour before we start !]

Yes, the ISC's rating system truly punishes some types of boat (before the sea and wind get the chance) to the extent that I stopped doing the RTI. If only they would develop a system that is a little fairer...

Good luck to those who are competing tomorrow. I hope you all have a great day. Might even get a bit of sunshine!

Celestine, Starlight 39, 0610 Start, Blue Flag.

Fortunately the ****** that his is us last year has come to his senses, and decided not to enter this year.

The wind is looking predominately NNW so good for us ....... the stronger the better, though!

Go for it Nick, all the best from Howth

8th in class, 101st overall on IRC. Pretty happy with that as it was a day for the reaching machines. Basically match raced a familiar competitor home from Bembridge, just came out the worse after a 2 hour tacking duel, but made the day.
Reaching in a straight line is just dull....

We had a terrible race with one problem after another but we had an absolutely awesomely fantastic sail.
Sun, wind, spinnakers, bursts of 12knts, broaching a 51 footer and a great tacking duel past the forts with a couple of beautiful Swans.
My 12th rti and I never get tired of looking back at hundreds of spinnakers passing the Needles.

We were 350th of the ISCRS and 77th in Group 4 (black flag) which was not great, however,
We were late for the start,
We lost the clew on the loose footed main which on the reach to Hurst narrows was a nightmare to fix with boats close to windward and leeward.
Then our spinny boom track seized up and we seemed to be halfway to St Malo before we could eventually gybe and head for St Catherines.
After that things improved but we had an awful lot of catching up to do.
Like I said though it was thoroughly good fun and in 12 rounds it has to have been the best conditions I've had.

You all looked jolly pretty. I sailed with spectators, out from Gosport at about 0730, through the forts and onto St Catherines before turning round, so we saw most of the fast boats on our way out and sailed with some of the later/slower ones on the way back. Must say, tho', some of the guys in family cruisers have an awful to learn about setting and trimming sails!

Most amusing sight, thanks to Sunsail, one of its dodgems trying to go up wind with a kite wrap on the forestay!

Impressive result Nick.
To get much further up the field you have to start putting some serious pre-race effort in and spend serious money.
i.e. Racing sails. Polished hull. No antifoul. Empty the boat of everything etc.
When you start doing that it becomes less enjoyable as you have to get the results to justify the time/effort/money.
Best to keep the boat a family cruiser. Not a racer. Can't do both.

jolly good day out - poodled around with badly set baggy old sails - splendid days sailing - managed to come in the top 1400 (just) - didn't beat my time in the trusty old Debutante - BUT did just beat 12 hours - had a beer afterwards with my Dad who said "were you last ?" and I hope didn't upset anyone .... I really enjoyed all the sights on the water and off.
