A complete beginner's silly question:
Can I see the race crossing line from land, somewhere around Stone Point maybe??? Is it possible to see Cowes from there? I've never been around those places before! I'm going to Hamble for the first time this weekend! I wanted to go to the Isle of Wight/Cowes but they're charging 50 quid for a ferry return ticket! I've been to France several times for less!
Just wondering
Cheers

I'd have thought that the best budget option (if that's what you're after) would be to go to Ryde either from Portsmouth (Fastcat) or Southsea (Flymo Lilo) - from Ryde it's a lovely cycle along the front to Bembride/St Helens where you could watch them all running aground on Bembridge Ledge.

Hurst Castle

I agree, definitely the place with the best view on the Hampshire side. But you do mean early. Yachts pass through Hurst narrows not long after the start, and most of the fleet will go through between 7 and 9 am, if the wind is fair.

Re: Hurst Castle

The weather forecast is predicting no wind for saturday, if so they will be passing/floating past Hurst point a lot later. Bad news for those who want to finish and get to the pub early.

Sorry CA - if you mean where can you see the finish from, the best place would be in proximity to the RYS 'castle' at Cowes. You won't see anything of th estart/finish lines from the Hampshire shore. But if you wanted to go one up, why not give the Island Sailing Club a call and ask if they want a hand on one of the finish line vessels?
