Route du Rhum 2018

I live in Guadeloupe, on Basse Terre near the lighthouse on the end at Vieux Fort. I have done the trip to Pointe a Pitre many times, there are no cliffs!!!!! Alex grounded on a rock. It's a well known rock and clearly marked. His plotter would have had it clearly shown, after all, mine does. He must have been sound asleep within 30 minutes of the finish.
Still a fantastic feat of sailing, pity it ended as it did. Great yachtsman, and well done.

Alex would have had his AIS on. You'd have thought Guadeloupe could have done the decent thing and moved out of the way.

I'm thought it happened a lot further from the finish than 30 minuets?

"The accident occurred at the north end of Grande Terre, just south of the Grande Vigie lighthouse on La Pointe à Claude."

I've been told that the watch he wears to give him an electric shock to wake him up had a flat battery. How he could sleep at those speeds is beyond me. The noise must be horrendous! Having said that he had been complaining of not sleeping in every one of his videos. I wonder what changes there will be to the sleeping arrangements on his new boat?
