Round the Island 2012 on BBC2 8pm ( coast ) tonight

Yeah - clashes with Sherlock Holmes (which has a nautical theme as it's about someone pinching plans of a submarine)!

Oh hell - it's on now!

You'd have thought they'd chose a crew who'd know how to control a kite. Pole was bouncing about all over the place and never saw the clew at the end of the pole.

Made me laugh when they said the rudder had gone and it was only a linkage failure, then seems to struggle with getting the sails down before attaching the emergency steering whilst shouting at other competitors to get out of the way!

;)Caught the last 30mins, confirms my decision to stay away from races and race boats though I did crew the first race of the season out of Lymington once. Boats everwere.
The story about nautical cannibalism , or were they vampires, was much more interesting! You never know:eek:
Watched Sherlock on the +1 after.

Watched the whole thing, but I'm not sure why. Coast just seems to be getting worse and worse and I find myself cringing every time I watch it. I remember it being a pretty good programme when it first started but maybe that's with rose-tinted glasses.

I'm wondering if they threw the spinnaker drama in for "good TV" as when the skipper was yelling at Nick that he really needed his help, the rest of the crew appeared to be sitting down in the cockpit chilling out. As for the rudder faff...

The RTI would have been a programme in its self.
I can`t stand all that jumping form one place to another all the time . Totally pointless, we have attention times longer than a goldfish after all.

I wonder if this technique is taught as a tool to get viewers to watch the hole programme instead of only the bit they are interested in. (A technique relevant only for commercial programmes.) If so, I wonder if it is actually backfiring. Instead of watching the entire program viewers turn off.

Drifting the subject slightly to this years Round the Island Race.
Just 3 weeks to go.
This Saturday is the last day for entering at the £84 rate. After that it's £240.
(1273 entries so far.)
We will not be entering.

Maybe not long and arduous but, if it's a beat in strong winds down to the Needles don't you find it excitingly tense?

I get that but toughest. If he was doing a RTW then toughest would be fine adjective.

It's a race with maybe a thousand boats crewed by people out for a good day sail. Then a few hundred genuinely competing and that's what it special. Largest I could live with but there are numerous races that are tougher.
