Last Sunday of the boat show we had to take our targa 47 back to Poole from Southampton ,
the Mrs ( luckily ) drove back and my youngest son and I took the boat, the winds were pretty constant up around 5-6 for a full 24 hrs before so we knew it was going to be a bit lumpy. Winds were s/w aswell so pretty much on the nose all the way back. we left ocean village and turned west into the Solent, when that was a little bumpy we knew it was going to interesting once past hurst point. Waves were breaking and the swell about 2-3 m, the sea looked white like the ones on you tube of North Sea fishing boats!
I was told that this boat was a good sea boat, Jfm has spoke highly about it which is one of the reasons why we went for a 47, I have to say it was bloody brilliant.!

Crikey ! , reminds me of being caught out in a little 16 foot fletcher coming back from alum bay . The 47 certainly seems to handle it well . What speed were you doing ?
Excellent video , if only Henry could have had his drone out there :D

Looks fun!

I was admiring your t47 this weekend, near the end of c pontoon, right? We are on c68 on YOLO, say hi if I'm there when you're passing, you won't see me out in f5-6 though!

Mental note to self: Never attempt Southampton to Poole in an F5-6 with a 2-3m swell
Great video, it looked like I would have had fun for about 10 minutes, after which I would have been looking disconsolately at the "time to next waypoint", wishing it to shrink.

I'll raise you.......

This was shot about an hour after the worst part.... at that time I could not hold on and hold a camera... OMG! I believe it was about 6 gusting 7 .... but maybe more?? The wind had eased during the afternoon.

The boat is a Freeman 32 (built 1970) North Norfolk coast.... departed Lowestoft and made it to Wells next to sea. About 7 hours. Single handed, no auto pilot.

She took it very well :encouragement: I've been caught out twice this year in F9's returning from events with one on anchor but in wind with tide when the sea was blown pretty much flat and plenty of F4's against tide when the sea was huge so the wind is not always a measure. My all time favourite though is this vid from a local forumite which I keep as a reminder. I'd have found god very quickly. Fair play to them.

We have had our Absolute 41 out in similar weather with identical results, now looking at something bigger (same size as targa 47) with pods, anyone know what the difference would be, if any ? )

Seeing the video reminds me I need to get some new wipers for the T44 they look identical to those on the T47 31/32 inch with a saddle connector to the arm, I ordered what I thought was right from ebay but the saddle was too thin even with the plastic insert, does anybody know a good source?

rubberduck: I think the Fairline hull handles rough weather well in general (for a planning one) thats one of the reasons for us buying the T44 which is on IPS.

The worst I can recall was in my Targa 40 heading to La Rochelle.

It was blowing a 5 ish and the sailing boats coming out of the harbour were rolling like pigs. The waves were big and the white cap frequent.

As luck would have it wind and waves were right behind us for our passage and to my total surprise it was like floating on air!

In our Endurance 33 I went in supposedly sheltered waters from La Rochelle to Oleron (11 miles!) but into the waves and into the wind which I guess was also circa a 5. The saving grace was the sun was shining but it was rough as nails and we got soaked! The endurance 33 slams like a pig!

Ah, now I see.....

I've previously described my virgin trip with my newly bought Trophy 2352 from Poole to Ramsgate on this forum.....

I knew it was a very lumpy, bumpy journey, but as a complete novice I thought that was par for the course - but seeing these vids and realising that I was in worse conditions than all of them most of the time, I'm beginning to realise that I was out in very poor conditions indeed !
That's made me feel a bit better......

Hi
The boat was brilliant, but down to 9knts from hurst to Bournemouth pier and then only up to 15 then,
Did think drone footage would be brilliant at the time, if I had a few spare that I would put into the drink!

Your video reminds me of bad patch we hit at St Alabans head. The Princess 50 in front of me said they could see us completing disappearing out of view as we sank in troughs. Our bow submarines a few times, sheet water over windscreen. Glad it only lasted 15 mins!

Great video thanks for sharing. I can certainly relate to that experience and the reassuring performance of the T47 in those sort of conditions. The worst we had was leaving Portsmouth harbour last year on the Sunday after the Americas Cup event, we had a 30 to 35 knot easterly against a strong ebb tide, creating waves coming out of the harbour entrance to break over the bow! Once outside and up to 10 to 15 knots of boat speed, the sea keeping was fantastic and I certainly felt I would give up before the boat. Once round Gilkicker and heading West with the waves, it was a fantastic ride back to the Hamble.
