Thinking of overwintering in Roscoff. It looks horribly exposed on the chart. Anyone any experience of the shelter in there during heavy winter weather? TIA
Been in there in a W gale and no probs at all. Ile de Batz takes the worst of it and Plateau des Duons gives some protection from easterlies, though I've not been in there during an E blow. The current can run quite strongly through the marina but not a problem once you're alongside. As you probably know it is ideally placed for the ferry to the UK. Reasonable Casino supermarket is about a mile away up a bit of hill. Showers are clean and modern.
It gets very lively in strong southerlies.
Have a think about Morlaix which will be cheaper, is perfectly secure and more congenial over the bleak winter months.

It is the summer when it is full of people waiting for the ferry that appals me. Roscoff is fantastic in the winter.I once had to spend a cold, wet afternoon in Roscoff after missing the train back to Morlaix. That was quite enough. The thought of spending an entire winter there appals me.
