Rogue boat trader on TV

I think that you're right. A friend of mine who lives in Canada wanted to watch the performance of a piece of music that he had composed, but could not get iPlayer to see it.

My guess is that as the bbc sell the rights of a lot of programmes world wide, and from this must collect a substantial sum of revenue, being available on iPlayer would/could put a big dent in this income.

Just a guess.

They only buy rights to shows for a limited period for a single geographic area (the UK). (Even ones they make, they have to buy the rights off the performers)

No

Wasn't Traders premises used for the location for Ken Master's Office in Howards way?!

That was Quay Marine in Swanick which was the biggest Sealine Dealer at the time and was run by a chap called Chris Coleman, very near the Elephant Boat Yard and of course the Jolly sailor, which was near Gerard's house...mind you never watched it myself.

Chinese whispers......

she put her up for brokerage broker mortgaged boat shipped her out to Denmark to sell her to a Dane. still charged original owner £380 pm storage ect then tried to spam £10k out of the original owner
all straight forward really:eek:

Almost but not quite!!

Different stock boat was mortgaged and then sold with mortgage not cleared.

Storage cost was quoted at £800pm when the boat had some time previously been sold (and shipped) to the Dane, who paid £300K but original owner was told sale was for £290K.
All in all a pretty sad tale of people being ripped off.

Doesn't sound like it!!!

he might have been watching on his Dads kneee.

Just watched the programme using the link in post # 8 Even though I am not in the SE I had no problem. As was said in the programme, it is a disgrace that there is no legal remedy to put a stop to such people and send them to jail. It affects all other brokers as well. Will I ever completely trust a broker in future? I feel deeply sorry for all those who have lost money to this barsteward.

He is not the only one either. Every week you hear of companies going out of business and winding up owing large amounts of money. Then the previous owners buy back the best bits for a knock-down price to start again. Even the Government is at it. Just ask the former shareholders of Northern Rock or Bradford and Bingley for example.

"Every week you hear of companies going out of business and winding up owing large amounts of money. Then the previous owners buy back the best bits for a knock-down price to start again."

It needn't be quite as black as you paint it. A pal of mine had a very niche business, where most of the costs and most of the revenue came in Q4. In Q1-Q3 he progressively drew down an agreed bank loan to finance the business until the cash started rolling in. The pattern had been repeated for many years. Then his bank changed its policy and demanded immediate repayment of the loan, before revenues started flowing. Despite him showing his bank firm orders from national retailers and overseas distributors, the bank put the business into administration.

Given that it was a one-man business, and the administrators couldn't raise any revenue from the sale of very specialised assets, like tooling at far eastern manufacturers, he was able to use a little family money to buy the assets from the administrators for a pittance, and was back in business within weeks, with the only losers being his bank. He now banks elsewhere and has continued trading successfully for a decade or more.

I'm not suggesting something similar happened with the broker in the report, who seems to be a total rectum, but sometimes there are good 'not my fault' reasons for phoenixes.

I will try to watch inside out later to see what its all about.Im glad gludy got a lot of money back If I lost that much if I got it back .I think I still would be send a scrap man out to have him put in the boot of a car :)

Dont know why they dont let news on though :After all after a couple of days news is old and nobody would pay for old news But someone in another country might still like to here what going on in blighty even a week later

By the way sorry for thread drift

With the old version of iPlayer if you started the download in the UK you could then carry it on overseas. Dont know about the newer version though
