Any owners of either these boats here? I've been talking to RBS about a new 1290 Evo. The 1290 Evo is the same hull as the 1250 with an updated interior which looks very nice and an easy sell to Mrs Scala. Slightly extended swim platform. Yanmar 440's on shafts my probable choice. Not so much on the options list and a year to wait for one.

When I think of Rodman.... things that come to mind, not all good, are ... Not glossy. Tough. Workmanlike. Seaworthy. A bit Fisher-y. Basic cockpit. Uncomplicated. Awkward flybridge ladder to a small flybridge. Most of these are good, but I wonder what the reality is.

How does the Yanmar 440 compare to the alternative also offered of the VP D6 440 ? Prices are the same within a £1k.

Be interested to hear of owners' views. Or any random banter really.

I love that style but do they do any options for stern area seating wise?

If you’re not planning on fighting marlin, sort of feels like dead space in terms of day to day use. Couple of lazy boy recliners could work ?

No mention of fender storage….first thing to check
Yes, it’s got a lazarette!

That’s definitely right. I’m no fisherman. The cockpit needs proper seating and a table, I’ve asked that question.

Hull dims look nice a sharp forefoot and beamy stern for lift low down @14 knots start to plane . ( MBY article) and
shaft s are the way to go .
Reading around Yanmar the 440:, depends on the exact modal and propping .
EGT s soar over propping , fouling mimics this as we all know .They did a valve mod not long ago on the 4 valve model fitted S Steel exhaust valves which sorted them dropping off , the weld used to go in the excess temps .
If the boat you propose has this mod it should have by now ,then the Yan 440 s on shafts is the way to go .

They have been @ 440 Hp for over a decade and apart from this excess EGT s derived issue they seem good .
VP D 6 Hmm it’s now still being blown up - so to speak ( turbos + superchargers? ) currently 440 Hp out of the 5.5L block .

MAN do a 8.3 L - 450 Hp ( maybe a bit more ) and Cummins a 550 Hp out of a approx 8 L .Inline 6 s like the Yan / D6 .
They will he heavier but both bomb proof .It’s what Ferretti group use in this power node .

MBY mag says “ 37 knots wot “ , cruise “ 22 “ I would rather have a MAN / Cummins powered that did due to the extra weight and thus dragg say 33/34 Knots on a mag test @ wot .Still would cruse low to mid twenties due to the g box ratios being a fraction longer to accept the extra torque and swing bigger props .

You ought to ask the factory ?

Apart from that yes it looks great with the new interior. The relatively small FB will work well in the UK s climate on the odd occasions it’s shorts and bear back weather while cruising :) .
The ladder is a compromise worth accepting for the extra interior space @ the Marina / anchor .

I remember climbing up / down a similar ladder on this Faeton 36 @ Cannes many moons ago .Ok in a Marina but despite its appearance it was a none issue .Spanish seem to like them .
Would not put me off .Iirc this had a pair of Cummins another attraction . ;)

Looks like the same Sp generic ladder manufacturer, hand rail to suit .

Hi Sticky

i love the 1250 because simply i love my fishing and going away with the other half
there not a gin palace but they are an amazing looking boat that will look after you
incredably safe with the high walk way and freeboard so if any kids on board its great still got to keep an eye on the little sods,
accomidation is fine so its a sport fisher at the end of the day best of both worlds.

Nice. :)

Whatever problems a VP powered boat might come with, VP has a dealer network second to none especially in UK.
As this type of craft is likely to actually be used by any owner , nice to see a sensible reliable low maintainance drive system aboard.

Was fortunate enough to get ride on one of the first Rodman 1250s that came into the UK at SBS.
Fitted with whatever the biggest VP engines option available at the time and of course on shafts.
The skipper advised everybody to hold on tight, Yea right Mate ?
It went off like rocket and as he headed towards a line of commercial bouys and wove inbetween them was suprised at just how agile it was.
Friend has a 41 and from memory this hull has a small residual "keel" .
