The last film soundtrack included the cox shouting "Lost the Rudder" before the boat went off course. That crash was being blamed on the cox by the commentator, but could well have been caused by a rudder cable coming adrift.

Re: Supporting Alex and co

As mentioned previously Alex took part today in the Ball Cup Regatta at Dorney Lake.

His first duty of the day was to depart from our berth at Bray Marina and helm Carli down to the EA moorings by the Eton boathouse. This was no problem to him, and he did an immaculate ferry glide onto the moorings between two other boats.

He and his boat-mate raced their double scull and won their semi-final by 1 and a half lengths. This was in the J13M class for 13 year olds.

Sadly, the final was not so easy and they were just beaten out of the medals and finished fourth.

After a short rest Alex was racing again, this time in a quad as part of a J14M team (ie the other kids in his boat and the race were a year older than him). It was also the first time they had rowed together!

They came second in their semi-final.

Their final was the last race of the day. They rowed a terrific race and managed to snatch third place.

He was really pleased to get a medal.

The weather was awful and all the teams were freezing cold and soaking wet all day.

We got back to Carli after loading the ROBOs onto the trailer and had a hot drink and a bite to eat, after which Alex insisted on helming back to Bray Marina.

He said it would stop him falling asleep! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Not quite as good a result as Bray in the TVR, but I am still bl**dy proud of him.

Re: Supporting Alex and co

Thanks Brayman & Chuckaduck.

Alex is looking forward to the BCC BBQ, he wants us to have a go at the competitions........

Our RYA Powerboat Level 2 presentation certificates arrived this morning so we should be able to drive ok on inland waters.

Alex's next ROBO regatta is Weybridge on Sunday 3rd June down by Desborough Cut.

MOBO hat on... That means the ROBOs will be reserving half the river and staggering around in the way on the other half! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

You only have to worry if he is coming towards you in our tender and he is flying the skull and crossed-oars...... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
