Hi!
Some of you may remember previous thread as to my complaints about some plywood bought from Robbins timber. I did not feel they (the sheets) held the quality boasted at the Robbins site. Well, I blew out some frustration at this and one other forum as to the rather modest response from Robbins. This I had promised them in advance. After some time I sent the link to the forums to Robbins, challenging them to adress the public. Nothing heard, and that would have been the end of the story IF NOT..... my newly laid 1. layer of plywood started to delaminate just 2 months after application.
Well, this really got me shocked and angry. I sent an e-mail to Robbins DEMANDING my money back - and if not - I would prosecute them. I got an answer from the managing director saying that he wanted to come over here to Norway to have a look at the plywood. The next week he was here, looked at the ply, took some pictures and brought some samples with him back to the UK. He promised to get back to me in a few days- and he did! He offered me a full refund and kindly offered me to keep all of the previously delivered plywood. This I can use as reinforcements inside the boat.
The bottom line: ROBBINS TIMBER acted professionally and in my view has done what they could in this situation. Their supplier (Kelet in Israel, now out of business) did NOT manufacture their sheets (the load I got) up to specs. Luckily, Robbins take the expenses and obviously loose some money they're not getting back. My confidence to Robbins as a SERIOUS firm is back to where it was PRIOR to this unfortunate purchase. I have received all of my money back on my account.
Since this matter is settled, I would very much like to delete my initial thread. Anybody know if that is "legal" ??
A last word: The Internet forums are a wonderful tools. I doubt if I would have seen the same response from Robbins had I not used the forums at woodenboat and here to speak my case and get the good replies from you lot. Thanks!!!
