Has any of the panel used Robbins Elite ply and if so what are your thoughts on it as far as finish etc go?

Will it give a good finish when varnished? I am refitting my Konsort and have hit a brick wall with ply. The stuff I have seen so far is not very good to put it mildly.

Not used it yet but Robbins Elite was what I was thinking of using on my fit-out. Robbins are recommended by Selway-Fisher Designs for boatbuilding in ply...

Depends on which "Elite" you are considering. It is a good quality structural ply using Gaboon veneers in its standard form. Robbins say it varnishes well, but it may not match the existing finish in your boat. Super Elite uses mahogany veneers and Super Plus sapele. You can also get stripy sapele - very popular for dinghy decking or veneered in other hardwoods.
If matching is important then you need to look at the sheets to find the one that is the best match.

I've used the Elite, the sapele is very nice once varnished. No voids and very dense.

Are Robbins able to supply specific varieties of Sapele for matching purposes ? I mean pomel/ stripey / tiger stripes ?
