This may not be too much help but there was a couple who lived aboard a Roamer mainly in the Med and several years back PBO did a regular article from him including building etc. I remember there was a dissected view of this Roamer which was very well done. I think the guy's name was Harper and if I'm not mistaken he published a book on his roaming (sorry). I have some old PBO's, I'll have a look through for you.

Just had a look at Amazon. I think the guy was Mike Harper - he did some guides based upon his travels with the Roamer. Having a look at my PBO's, I only go back to 1993 and I think it was before that. I started taking PBO in 1983 so the articles would have been somewhere in that ten years - sorry I can't pin it down but PBO might be able to help.

If you contact the lady in Practical Boat Owner who deals with boat reports (telephone number in all the Mags) she will tell you if there have been any articles on the Roamer and send you copies for a small fee.

As an aside the Roamer was ured in a TV serial many years ago.

Hi Finkle

I knew the guy who moulded the GRP topsides for these boats. He was based in Tims Boat Yard at Staines Middx, and was called Andy Fletcher. He was actually building one of the boats for his own use (to a very high standard). There were 3 of us all building various boats in the yard at the time, summer 1976, and I remember it as one of my favouorite times, it was exceptionally hot and dry and the 3 of us became good friends.

I remember sailing Andy's boat back from Chichester to the Ramsgate one time and being amazed at just how civilised it all was!

He eventually sailed her across to the Caribean and sold her out there. I think his Roamer was called "Shadowfax".

All best Nick.
