This is why I moved to heavier displacement. Had a Ben, fearful slamming in conditions described going to Falmouth. Unnerved SWMBO. Do not doubt for one minute the strength of these BAN/BAV/JEN type hulls but they sure tire the crew in 'tousy' conditions. Passed St. Albins Head, thru' race, solid water over deck, not a slam in sight ... crew thought it best part of the sail. B/B/J's were furling and taking inshore passage and motorsailing.

I think we need be a little more specific here. People tend to single out the Ben/Bav/Jen boats but that's only because there are so many of them around. All modern designs (almost everything designed in the last 10-15 years) are light to medium displacement and with rounded frontal areas which make them noisy/twitchy in such conditions.
