Just checked the RNLI "news for your region" section. Funnily enough, under North East it omits to mention the 2 AWLBs they are taking away from us up here and leaving ILBs in place only! It only appeared on our local TV last night because someone leaked it to the press. Interesting when you consider the discussion which took place on these boards only recently regarding the cost of the architectural magnificence of the new centre they have built. I agreed that the crews deserved first class facilities in all ways, but now lets think what I'd like most for my monthly membership money if I'm in trouble at sea... a smart building down South somewhere or an all weather boat stationed near enough to reach me in time ... Mmm tough choice.

That's interesting as the norm over the past few years has been to supplement all stations with AWLB's with an ILB also....!!!!!!!

loosing its way

We drove past the new centre the otherday. I can't help feeling that the RNLI in taking on these massive overheads and continuing to expand it activities - into life guards etc, is beginning to loose its focus on its original aims - they are going to have to run harder and harder to finance the extended operations they are building - with possible disasterous consequenses.
