How far can I get up the seine from honfleur with 16/17m air draught. Where is the best place to take the stick down. I see paris is 243km up river, has anyone been up , would benefit from their experience. thanks

I advise you ask around for experiences. I recall a report some years ago about someone having the stick removed at the obvious place on the way up and the yard were a bunch of cowboys who caused a lot of damage. It's probably OK now but worth checking.

I sailed Belle Serene up to Paris and back 18 months ago. As I recall, your options to demast are at Honfleur, Tancarville or Rouen.

The boatyard just inside Honfleur lock on the left, MMM, is run by a charlatan called Germain and they perform appallingly poor work. Avoid like the plague. There's another place at Honfleur, HMM inside the inner bridge, which should be OK if they'll store the mast for you.

Tancarville is a very tidal entrance and needs to be time-planned carefully.

Otherwise it's Rouen where most people do it. Just above there is the first bridge.

Get La Seine Aval - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/2916919279/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_jnHixbMRXDKD3 - and pick up the phone for peace of mind.

Enjoy. I wish I'd been able to spend more time on my way up the Seine.

And don't be persuaded by the books that there aren't loads of places you can stop with a keel once you're into the non-tidal Seine. With some ingenuity, warps and anchor, there's lots to enjoy. Belle Serene draws 1.8m.

Mind out out for thieves though, from Honfleur upwards. I was boarded three times, twice at night while I was asleep on board including once in the Vieux Bassin at Honfleur, and once by day while the boat was moored to a small pontoon and I was returning from the local town. Only the latter one got away with anything (a half-empty bottle of wine left in the cockpit) - but the two lads put it back when I cornered them!

(apologies for thread drift)
