Im in the process of rerigging my yacht and I have been offered 7x7 stainless steel wire (ie seven strands of seven smaller strands) . Has anyone else used this wire and how did it perform ?

Check the breaking strain - I seem to remember 7x 7 is not as strong as 1x19. Also if you are using swageless terminals you must have the right kind of cone - not always easy to find in the chandleries.

7X7 wire of the same diameter as 1X19 will not be as atrong. You need to know what strength of wire you need and compare that to the strength of the 7X7 you are planning to use. 316 grade of stainless is more corrosion resistant than 304 so you may want to chack its grade too. As long as it is strong enough then 7X7 is perfectly acceptable for a cruising boat. It is also easier to hand splice 7X7 if you want to save some money and eliminate potential quality issues with swaged or crimped fittings.
