For a 31 footer, saloon and v berth, no aft cabin just a quarter berth I paid £2000, including new foam and a set of cockpit cushions while I was at it.

Forget the marine upholsterers as they are expensive. Try using local caravan upholsterers as the will be half the price, but using the same materials. 10 years ago I replaced all the upholstery in my 32ft Fulmar. Total cost was only £800, compared to marine upholsterers quoting from £2500 upward.

We have an upholstery business down in Fowey, Cornwall and we generally charge £80-£100 per cushion + material, which can be anything from £30-£50 per metre, so a typical saloon and forepeak might be a bit over £2,000. It doesn't make much difference to the labour cost what size the cushion is. If you want to get an idea of foam costs, this is a good website for working out prices.

I don't think that's true. We charge what the job is, regardless of whether it is a camper van, caravan or boat. We definitely don't add a premium for boats and I don't think most companies would.

My boat has 20 cushions of various sizes - zips, backing, vinyl and thread came to less than £300, I reused the original foam and the old covers as patterns, added some memory foam and by the time I'd got to the 3rd or 4th cushion, me and my mother's old Singer (at least 70 years old) had got the hang of it. Mind you it was during Covid and time was not a problem. I also rebuild spinnakers!

Mine was done by Sewtrim in Southampton sewtrim.co.uk Basic (no bolsters, buttoning, shaping etc) but mid price fabric and new foam (6 bunk cushions, 6 backs, one headboard) just under £2000 in 2023.
