Augusta at last year's Masters unless I'm very much mistaken. They had a point, no women members seems a bit prehistoric. Any UK yacht clubs still as antediluvian? Having said that the guy's poster, is indeed very funny... (you're right, can't be American as there's irony in that thar humour).

I cannot see the problem with clubs that wish to remain exclusive. There are lots of institutions that are single-sex, so what ??

So... if instead Augusta had a 'no blacks' policy, would you say that was okay on the basis of wanting to retain exclusivity? Presumably not, so why is 'no women' materially different?

Because Race is different to Sex.
Why do we have Public Toilets for Gents or Ladies, rarely for both ?
Are you suggesting that it should be made impossible for men to be able to enjoy themselves within a men only situation and women to do the same?
Suppose this isn't for a boating forum really so I won't reply to your next post, no slight intended.

It's true that even the barbaric Dutch have seperated Men and Wummin public loo's, but.... (there's that nice but again)... the moment there is a line at the wummins and no line at the gents, it is more than accaptable for a (or more) woman to make use of a vacant Mens-loo. Not a law against it.

Back to the sailing world, in this case a parallel of the above. There is nothing wrong with a stag-weekend on board although our club is a mixed vclub, is it? Same as for a mixed golf thingy, you can have a round with just your male/female friends don't you?

Besides being a very bored environment, I see no need for an all men/wummin's club. Heck, we need the swmbo's for some balance (and I'm not afraid to admit it, except perhaps during happy hour) /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Ok then.
I suppose that I have a dichotomy here in that I am not in favour of banning all "single sex" clubs and organisations. I am however totally against "single race" ones.
From what I've gleaned there are many instances when women would prefer to "do their own thing" without men being present. Women in this world appear to have specific traits/interests that nearly all other women sympathise with, whatever their race. Men are similar IMHO.
Are the PC gurus saying that I must be allowed to play Ladies Hockey in the knowledge that or because this would be against the rules of the national Federation? As it happens, my hockey skills wouldn't get me into their U10s team.
I've been a member of golf and tennis clubs since I was a lad and have been to a number of men-only establishments including Augusta National. Whilst I wouldn't agree that in every case their policies have been what I would have chosen, I do believe that they have the right to decide them themselves.
At the same time I also defend the right, of that small bunch of frustrated men in the photo, to protest /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

That reminds me of the time long ago.
I was in one of those Victorian underground
conveniences which have a staircase at each end
As we men were lined up we all heard the sound of
