I need to reset the mmsi on my Icom MA-500 TR. I have read that this is a dealer only job, I have even read that this is illegal etc etc...

I have also heard of codes being available to allow diy changing on some models.

I found a process for my Simrad vhf, has anyone any handy hacks to avoid the trip to the Icom dealer?

On Cruisers Forum :

"Good news from Icom.

They have simplified the procedure for resetting own ship MMSI on almost all of their DSC-equipped radios sold after December 2023. The only radio without this procedure are the M330 and M424G series.

Under the old reset procedure, a manufacturer's rep had to be called to bring the necessary dongle. Under the new procedure, Icom will email the necessary reset code."

So it looks like if your radio is pre Dec 2023 - then its a dealer job ... but a post Dec 2023 radio (hopefully not an old one from stock !) is by a code supplied by ICOM .....

The MA-500 TR needs to be reset using the cloning dongle & software - there isn't a code.
I was afraid of that...but thought I'd ask anyway...

Problem is that I am in Ireland so sending it to the GB and back will involve dealing with customs twice on both sides of the water or having it sent via Northern Ireland.

I'll try the local marine electronics guy here but he is always too busy to do anything until it has a layer of dust on it and even then you may need to get annoyed with him...
