As some of you already know, my company has gone down the pan and I have had no work for a while (hopefully new job shortly - past 1st interview and fingers crossed). Therefore money has been (and is) a tad tight. I decided to sell my SSB and new ATU (Icom M700(UK) and AT-130). After some negotiation, I promised to sell at an agreed price to a well respected fellow forumite. He wanted to pick it up on 28 Dec, so I kept that day free and spent some money I didnt have on Christmas presents for the family. Came the day and no contact. I eventually got a message from him that he was involved in some way with the Asian disaster but still wanted it. I respected the problem (missing out on 2 other purchasers) I have tried to re-establish contact without success, and recently sent him a pm asking for his intentions. I know the pm was read cause I got a read receipt, but I have had no other message.

My head tells me that this fellow has stitched me up a treat and worsened my financial problems, whilst my sense of honour says that I had promised this man the equipment and the last message I received from him was asking me to keep it for him. What do you recommend that I should do?

Send him a PM and/or email telling him he has a set period ( 7 - 14 days? ) to contact you, or the deal is off. Wait for the period you have given him, then readvertise / sell elsewhere.

You are trying to act honourably, but the evidence suggests he is not. If he was able to read your PM, he should have been able to make some sort of response.

Good luck with the job, and with the sale of your gear.

I agree entirely

This way you are doing your best to be fair and honourable.

Pity I'm not in the market for this sort of kit, or I would make you an offer now.

Best of luck with the job situation. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you

there's a constant stream of people looking for ssb's on liveaboard. you should have no probs unloading it for a good price.

Contact your other interested parties before re-advertising. One of them may still be in the market. Sell if you get an acceptable deal and simply notify the original purchaser the items are no onger available.

Do not lose any sleep over it and certainly do not lose any more time without the funds.

Good luck with your job application.

I would say sod him big style.

You kept your side of the bargin. Flog it to sombody else and it may help the sort out the difficulties he caused by being a prat.

You could always threaten to name him. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Best of luck with the new job.

He might've had a dodgy i-net connection that he couldn't re-establish - however, as you need the dosh and he's not around then sell to another party .... one of lifes little hickups - could be he's trying it on, could be he can't get in contact - eitherway it doesn't help you!

Name and shame him - may stop some other forumite getting caught out

I agree.

Sorry to hear about your difficulties. I'm sure you could well do without this sort of behaviour at present.

I had one too last year like that, definitely wanted to buy, would get his wife to ring and arrange collection, then had same story a month later, had been out of the country but still wanted to buy... Eventually sold it in 3 days via Boats and Outboards, never did hear from the forum guy again.

Go ahead and re-advertise 'due to timewaster'. Best of luck.
