Sun struggling to rise this morning over the Sea of Marmaris so the Fl(9) on the cardinal marking that island on which James Bond zapped the villian in 'The world is not enough' stands out. The Lighthouse below the Blue Mosque appears to be Fl(2)+2LFl. 10s but by the time I had collected my Misir Genesgi (or something like that - Corn Flakes to you) and had come back to check it, they had turned it off (0750) which was a bit of a surprise given that it's still as murky as the inside of a zookeeper's boot. the freshly squeezed orange juice is a bit bitter but the freshly squeezed Maitre d'hotel who says her name means Snowflake and that I am very handsome is very sweet.:encouragement:

The ferry traffic is fascinating to watch. I suppose every so often a couple of them collide with disastrous consequences but they seem to weave in and out between each other without fuss.

I would like to thank everyone who pays their taxes to the EU for selecting a hotel which matches my importance and dignity (the Conrad Hilton); quite the grandest room I have stayed in; the bathroom even has a waterfall in it. Very grateful to you all. Back tomorrow; best I go down and earn another daily fee....... I was thinking of squandering it and modernising TG at the boat show this year, how much are those Bosun style compasses nowadays?:D

And to think that I used to respect tg. Anyone who goes to Turkey and has corn flakes for breakfast does not deserve our sponsorship, when there are so many delicious local foods available, such as the local yoghurt.

I travelled a lot to Asia with my previous job, and was always amazed that my (British) colleagues had bacon and eggs for breakfast, when the local Congee, or Dim Sum was so wonderful!

Oh, I had a bit of yoghurt and a couple of the different varieties of honey (there were 6 to choose from) and I've done the Backlava tonight and the Wedding soup. I was having a conservative moment of madness with the sleep still in my eyes. Please, please keep up the sponsorshipppppp......

Yeah Roger, you are definitely pushing your luck. It's one thing going on fancy trips at customers' expense (as I used to do, and it wasn't that much fun either) but quite another flaunting all this (especially the Snowflake bit) in front of freshly-squeezed tax-paying pensioners.

Only brings back the horror of the eastern end of the Sea of Marmara.....My hotel apartment balcony was the last thing between there and Istanbul. Do go to the spice market though. It amuses customs when you open up a suitcase full of dodgy looking spices. But saffron at that price is hard to resist.

Believe it or not I am actively trying to pack it up - but then the guy says, well could you come back on 6th January - yes but I have to be back for the Boat Show on 9th. That'll be fine he says, you can come back out on the 26th! I am not sure which bit of 'I'm retiring' he doesn't understand. Mind you this was quite fun except for being at Istanbul airport at 4am UK time meaning getting up at 2.30am! And as for Snowflake, 20 years I've been waiting to be accosted and when it happens I'm too decrepit!

Also close to a distant East coast, but:

if I tried that on the maitre D (AKA the mess Sgt Major) he might get the wrong idea about civilian life :)

From my memory, Istanbul is a bit different in the winter:
