I have a typical top opening insulated coolbox. Over the years the seal has become part detached, discoloured and rather unhygenic, with black mould embedded in it!
Today I bit the bullet and tore it all off, cleaned off the residue and - as a temporary measure - replaced it with draft excluder strip!
However, this is not ideal because the rectangular section excluder strip is "open" (spongy) on two sides, whereas the original seal is closed - ie a smooth non porous surface - on all four sides. Because the draft excluder is open it will absorb any moisture that runs down the gap between the lid and worktop and thus I expect will also start to become unhygenic rather quickly!
The original is 15mm wide by 11mm deep and the adhesive is on the 11mm side.
Does anyone know where I can get a similar sized strip of foam or rubber/pvc etc. It doesnt have to have any self adhesive side as we can use contact adhesive or double sided tape to fix it.
Or an alternative solution. However the 11mm height means that the foam sits proud of the lip so that the lid actually rests on the foam, making a seal, rather than on the lip with a gap between foam and lid as would happen if the foam was - say - only 9mm deep.
Hatch sealing foam isnt good as it is black which hides the dirt etc!
Cheers
