While the boat is out and the floorboards up I wish to repaint the bilges, some of the paint is flaking where is was poorly prepared for painting some time ago by the previous owner.

I plan to scrape the loose stuff then a light sand before repainting with Danboline or similar, some areas are bound to end up as bare wood (mahogany clinker planking).

Any thoughts or tips for what is likely to be a dirty job.

The boat has been ashore for two long over the summer of 2014 and tried out considerably, do I need to be careful not to let too much paint get into the plank lands or is this unlikely to be a problem in the grand scheme?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

An invaluable tool is an extra length of vacuum cleaner hose of a smaller diameter, ending in a small nozzle of about 1/2" diameter, used in conjunction with a bit of old hacksaw blade to poke debris out from the gaps.
