Hi there,

I am hoping for a bit of guidance. I have a recently purchased beneteau first 25 with a Renault cauche rc8d engine. While I'm trying to service the engine I cannot find the location of the oil filter. Am I blind? Or is there a reasonable explanation? I have never seen an engine without an oil filter and I cannot find anything online. Any help/pictures greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forums. I've done a Google and haven't found anything to help, but from a thread here:
Renalult Marine Couach Engine
Allegedly these engines are marinised Hatz industrial engines. The BMW D7 marine engine is also based on Hatz but although the base engine is the same the two companies did different conversions (generator was the big difference). Sorry I can't help more but if its just pistons or rings that you need try Hatz.
I think the BMW D7 marine engine might be an adaptation of the same engine as you have, and there's a manual here:
BMW D7 Owners Manual - Marine spare parts, Marine Technical ...
It makes no mention of an oil filter, or an oil filter change, which does seem utterly bizarre.

I can't see an oil filter!

Good luck!

I'm an expert on these!!
Well, sort of; as Corribee Boy states they're 'splash lube', and none the worse for it.
I gained a great deal of knowledge about these engines, so feel free to PM me as I might be able to help.
I do have the manual, and should be able to forward it to you, but I'm just away down to South Queensferry to annoy my grandchildren etc.etc...
A good thing to know about though, is that 'most' spares are readily available, as the base engine's a HATZ E673, which was marinized and water cooled. The water pump has 2 sides to it, one as a bilge pump and the other for the engine cooling. Spares used to be available from Tony Bennett at << rcouach@aol.com>>, but I'm not sure if he's still operating?
Great engines, very rugged but not the most powerful.

Thank you, ya the manual for the RC8D doesn't mention oil filter either and I have watched every video in slow motion to try see if I can spot the filter to no avail, thank you I will look into the BMW and hopefully find something ?
