Removing engines on a 30m motor yacht

Hi! An acquaintance of mine is refitting a 30m motor yacht from the early 1970’s. They are in the process of removing the engines, having found the hatch in the saloon floor through which engines can be extracted. However, there is no such hatch on the upper deck and it is apparently common practice to remove them horizontally via the aft of the saloon with a system of temporary struts… Would anyone (a technician?) be familiar with such a procedure or have any info to share?

Steel or wood ... if Steel, why not cut out section of hull side and take out that way ?

depending on size and weight of engines, many times a properly sized hole is cut on the upper deck and they are removed straight up
Probably wont be easy with 1000kg+ engines to get them off the aft salon doors.
if otoh it's a displacement hull with smallish (?) engines, it may be doable...

Never gonna have the reach on a 30mtr boat?

I've pulled some stunts with a Merlo but I wouldnt think thats doable?

Thats the way they do them in the mines. Great big dumpsters the lot. All has to get into the cage and dropped 2000m to where they're needed. And you thought boats have headaches.

yes, but you will have to install the new ones!

Seen larger Hyster folk lifts like they use on dry stack carefully send the prongs ( which have extensions fitted ) through the rear saloon doors .May remove theses doors first . Anyway they come in from there .

Theses fork lifts have additional weights on the rear because they have to reach up across the stack to pick up , or out and down into the water with a 5 ton boat perched on .
A yard that does bigger boats will have this kit .

No problem. Look, I know that this engine swap will carry on probably without our further input, but, if you could, some photos of the boat (and boatyard equipment) would be of interest to us?
