I understand that one can buy remotely operated valves for shutting off the gas at night etc with out having to go out on deck in the nude to do it etc . On one occasion dropped gas bottle on toe @***!!!****@@????

Does any one have experience of any particular manufacturer . I understand Compass have one that screws on to the GAZ bottle and with the regulator fitted to the other end etc. Seems a bit expensive at £40

I bought the compass one last year. Its made in Gremany and I had a **** of a jobgetting fittings to match it.Ended up having to get the gas fitting kit Compass supply which stung me for another 40 quid. Also it restricts your choice of gas to camping gaz which has recently gone up in price. Having said that the unit works really well, and the benefit of not having to crawl into a cold wet cockpit first thing in the morning makes the hassle worthwhile!

I think that you'll find that the plumbers motorised valves are for water, not gas. Because of the safety implications I would be cautious about this approach, tempting as it may be to get something at non swindlery prices! /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

I use a solenoid valve from BES Ltd. It's sold for use with LPG or natural gas, has a 12v coil, and costs about £25.
Only downside is it draws about 800mA when the gas is switched on - otherwise, it seems ideal.

You could try auto garage that convert cars etc to run on gas as they are all fitted with remote isolation valves on the gas tanks that open/ close with the ignition key..... about £20 or so i was told when i last enquired.

I've just bought one from Calor Gas in Southampton although it did cost more than £40.

Nice piece of kit, easy to fit and the guys at Calor Gas know what they are talking about.

Cheers

I had one fitted a couple of years ago. Operates from a switch at the galley, and shows a bright red light when on. You can't forget to turn it off.
