Reliable Marine Engineer - Poole

Hi all,

some recommendation please - I need someone to look at our keel bolts and do a few other bits. I am having a bit of a problem finding an engineer who first of all answers the phone, then comes and sees the boat and gives me a quote and eventually gets the job done. I actually want to spend some money but this fact somehow doesn't seem to generate any interest at the moment It's fine if I am told "sorry, can't help" but why tell me "sure, we can do it, will see you tomorrow" and then never turn up and stop answering my calls?

What is the problem with the keel bolts? You could try Greg Lyons. works out of Cobbs Quay/Davis's 07434810986. Did some work for me. Prompt response and good work.

There is some rust on the keel that I am a bit worried about so it needs further investigation

Probably just some of the sealing breaking up and needs raking out and resealing. Despite the scare stories actual keel bolts in GRP boats rarely give any problems unless that seal actually fails to the point that water gets to the bolts. Greg will give you an honest appraisal on that. Alternatively Angus Simpson also in Davis's is a surveyor as well as a shipwright. Where is your boat?
