Anyone have any experience of these? I've seen a few for sale with Volvo KAD32 170hp diesel at very attractive prices. Are they any good? They appear to offer plenty of space for the money.

We looked at one when they were new (end of the 90's ?).

I think all of this type of boat comes down to personal preference, i.e. I prefer an offset door to the cabin because I find it easier to get in the back bunk from a central doorway etc.

Regal's are good quality American boats, towards the top end of the quality scale. 2465 has a big feeling cabin with a high roof line. I like the steering position with a decent flip up bolster. I felt the bathing platform was too small (Although an extension is now available). I didnt buy one mainly because Gibbs wouldnt do a decent deal at the time.

The KAD32 is well documented with stupidly low fuel consumption, problems are easy to fix.

I have been looking at them latelty and think at the right price they are a great buy. My advice is go and have a look at it to see if you enjoy the 'feel' of it.

I found a Regal with a KAD31 diesel. Are these engines essentially the same apart from the supercharger? I think they have a 6' headroom in the cabin which would suit me well. Looked at a few Sealine S24's and the headroom was not high enough. Would this get under Oxford bridge, the low one with canopy down?

K means Kompresser (Supercharger) so should be AD31 or KAD32 no such thing as KAD31, so you need to check for a typo.

Doubt the Regal will fit under Osney, does it have a Radar arch? even without one it will be very tight, used to have an older similar Sportscrusier and it only just sneaked under with about an inch to spare, think the Regal with its higher superstructure would be too high.

Osney bridge height

Sorry AD31 then.

Osney bridge height is 7' 6" or 2.29 m

Regal with top down is 7' 0" or 2.1 m.

If no radar arch and all the covers down it may fit under (I've been through in similar size Four Winns and Maxum sportscruisers), but you will only have inches to spare, and if the level rises while you are up there you are stuffed

I would also check if its been re-engined, I dont remember seeing any small Regal's factory fitted with diesels in the early 90's (When the AD31 would have been around).

Hi Mark

Thanks for the info. The Regal 242 has a diesel and duo prop. It's looks clean, but has been around a long time. Maybe it has been re engined, but I suppose that's not a bad thing. It's a 97 model.
