Lappie is getting on a bit & slowing down..someone advised using REG Tool to sort it out. I downloaded the "free" bit & now have come to the point where I need to purchase the next download. Q ..is it worth it? what does it do & is it safe??

Advice appreciated.

Reg tool is widely regarded as malware. It advises all sorts of issues it will sort, when in fact these reports are erroneous, and purely designed to part you from your cash

If you want a reg cleaner, then use the reg cleaner in Ccleaner, or use RegSeeker both of which are effective and free, and don't try to rip you off for money to fix non existent problems.

If your computer is slowing down though , a registry fix is probably not the answer, as registry cleans have little overall effect on speed. More likely you need to clean out a lot of **** (use ccleaner) and then perform a defragmentation on your disk, and remove any items from startup that aren't required, etc, etc as they system just becomes overburdened with time, and needs housecleaning, or a complete reinstall

As what Brendan says, plus I would advise you remove Regtool completely by using System Restore to a point prior to the installation of it. Then use Task Manager to see if any process or application is hogging CPU and/or memory. If so, find out what it is and what it's doing by Googling it.

Incidentally my own desktop slowed to a crawl very recently. The cause turned out to be a badly seated memory module reducing total memory from 2GB to 1.

I use Regcure. Costs about $20, and has a high marking from Toucows and other comparative sites. Very quick and friendly help team too.

Not a silver bullet, but can show how many missing and erroneous links there are in the registry and removes them. It also manages the startup process very clearly.
