I don't mind the odd bit of strong language when I'm sailing, but I have two young grandchildren here for the hols who love sailing and often look over my shoulder at the screen ..........

If they can recognize "a word that is sort of, but not quite, a swear word" they probably won't be unduly harmed by seeing it.

I think anyone carrying more than 5 litres of petrol in a plastic can or 20 litres in a jerrycan or dedicated ob tank in a personal car without any external warning of your carriage of dangerous goods need their head examining.

How about the 85 litres of LPG and 65 litres of petrol I carry in my car without warning stickers? Because nobody, absolutely nobody, suspects that a car might contain flammable liquids.

It can be done on Avgas as Avgas does not explode..drop a match into a puddle of it and yes it will burn but not explode.

I think you are confusing Avgas (which is 100 octane petrol and goes bang just as readily as any other petrol) with Avtur (which is kerosene and behaves as you say).

While I looked after a bunch of aircraft, we treated avgas as more volatile than plain petrol and I would not get near some of the ideas on this thread.
When we had a fire in the hanger, not caused by by petrol, we were fighting it to keep it away from the full tanks of Avgas in the aircraft and the many others in the hanger.

I used to know a glider tuggy who would light the clubs weekly summer barbecue - I half an old oil drum - with half a jar of 100LL Avgas. By golly that went with a bang.

Sorry but you are wrong about avgas. I worked as a flying instructor for several years and have been on several fire brigade training courses all showing how Avgas does not explode but petrol does.

I've seen it with my own eyes..throw a match onto a puddle of avgas and yes it will burn but not explode..petrol will explode. I don't know why but i assure you its the case.

Petrol stations have very complex earthing in place to stop static when pumping petrol..they are not just simple electronic pumps. As to gravity feeds..yes it's possible but not via a 4 inch hose i'd say.

I spent several weeks looking into this trying to setup pumped petrol at the airfield i worked at and it was a no go due to the laws for petrol and relevant costs...avgas has different laws.

Everything we flew was piston powered so not Avtur. yes fumes of avgas may explode but not the actual liquid like petrol does.
