Red Diesel tax relief lost

UK government still have the option of only adding the minimum EU level of tax

anybody silly enough to believe that that will be their decision?

Yet another attack on those in the middle. At the upper end, it will make zero difference to the super rich, apart from making it even more exclusive. At the lower end, small petrol powered boats will continue as before. But as to the person with the 35-40ft Flybridge, ouch!

You're in a similar bucket to the person with the 28ft boat, who is wondering if the decision to go for twin engines was a smart move.

Also ouch.

But not as ouch as the person with, say a Sealine F37, for whom each fill up could cost £850.

true - but that sort of depends on the measures implemented doesn't it? Full road vehicle tax equivelence, even as currently before they get round to realising that green licence costs and road tolls can all be implemented more fairly through additional fuel tax very very easily........, would probably mean a pump price of around 110ppl currently (using marine petrol as a benchmark) and this assumes that distributors could or would accomodate twin supplies for leisure and commercial without significant additional overheads to pass on as well.

or

they increase the duty on red to the EU required level and deal with the commercials through paperwork at distribution or rebates - at an additional 13 - 15ppl on current rates that's not going to have the same impact! Given almost 0 implementation costs the latter would be a huge net gain income wise and may not even result in a huge vote losses for labour - indeed they did their best.

time will tell!

Now to see whether all the predictions of the sky falling down will come true.

And if it does, does anyone really expect HMG/EU to say "sorry, cocked up there, let's compensate and reinstate?" Nope, they will just shrug and look for another set of innocents who choose to do their own thing and foul them up too.

Good point - you can always claim that the dye was from pre-2007 fill-ups. For anyone with access to agricultural supplies this would make sense. Come to think of it, anyone can get hold of agricultural diesel, can't they? Not easy for any authorities to police that little loophole.

I think you may find that there will be a time limit of carrying "Red" in your tanks maybe 12 months before cutoff . C and E will check tanks . You will find C and E activity increase in large ports and RIB visits to smaller ones . Hefty fines for non compliance . There will be no escape .

[/ QUOTE ] come on many only fill their tanks every other year! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I was surprised when my (marine) diesel supplier sent me a pamphlet on storage tanks last week..........maybe a database mix up - maybe not.

anyone know what a realistic annual heating oil usage would be for a 4 bed detached ?

I think I'll use my main tank for the eber and fit a new 5 litre tank for the engine.

I dont think that HMCE will check where the fuel lines are actually going. Now will they........
