Saw one at the weekend and rather liked the look - anyone any knowledge/experience of this Holman and Pye design?

Yes, it is an Oyster 37, absolutely fantastic sailing boat, even Patricia landamore owned one until she hit a container in the pacific & sank!)

Lovely looking, but never really took off in terms of numbers sold. Close relation to the Wauquiez Centurion and Gladiateur, the UFOs and the Oysters of that era (1980 approx?). Apparently go well, but I've never got my bum aboard one. Mainly were used for cruising I think - don't recall one being raced seriously.

You have my support if you want to trade in the conservatory for one.

Looks very similiar to the Oyster 37, which was designed for the one ton cup by Holman and Pye.

We own an Oyster Heritage 37 (also H&P design) which is slightly larger and heavier displacement with a counter stern. I bought her without a trial sail and managed to knock a decent discount off the price. Had I fully appreciated her sparkling performance I'd have bitten the owners arm off!

How can it grow a foot to become an Oyster?
Its 1984 and asking price 44.5K
sails are a bit tired - North main.
Hull looks really clean and deck gear in good order - what do you think?

What I didn't mention was that we came far too close to a sailing boat and really stuffed him with our wash. Embarrasing and led to something of an atmosphere on board when I called the skipper a daft pillock.

If it is like a Wauquiez Centurion then I can say that it will sail very well indeed, though it sounds like this is a little more modern than a 32' Centurion (built from '68 to '77). The Gladiateur would be contemporary being built from '77 to '86, but cannot say how these go under sail, probably quite well.

they were built by Oyster, 1978-1982-ish, then someone else got hold of the moulds and called it a Red Admiral 36, there is one also for sale at beaulieu, been there for a while with alistair Easton . Not sure how quality the hulls were on the non Oyster ones, or what the fit out is like.
Oyster built 40 of them, some as kits, some built by landamore. She was a very successful IOR design in 1978., 20 out of the 40 being launched that year! As for the Red Admiral, only a handful (if that) were built, and hold no value really because, like you, nobody knows what they are!!
