Recommendations for a work platform for working on the hull when the boat is ashore?

For many years I have used ladders to enable me to reach high enough to clean and polish the hull of the boat every spring. I now have a problem with my feet. I can see that standing on a ladder rung or even a narrow step for hours at a time is likely to seriously worsen the state of my feet and, in fact, my GP has confirmed this earlier today.

In recent years I have seen a number of people using adjustable platforms to carry out this work but I have no idea where they can be obtained or even what they are actually called.

I have looked at B&Q but they do not have any on which the height can be adjusted.

Has anyone any experience of these things? Any good ones or ones not so good? It must be sturdy not one of the flimsy things that I know are around! Where do I obtain one? etc

Thanks.

I use these.

It folds and is much lighter than it looks. The adjustable legs have brakes and come in handy on uneven yard ground, or for that little bit extra height. You could also buy another one and it fits on top of the first.
Very sturdy, feel quite safe when working on it.

Think we got it from EBAY for about £250

If this is for work within a boatyard I suggest that you have word with them. The yard that I have been using for more than twenty years are now being rather sticky with allowing clients to make use of makeshift staging that is not equipped with railings, toe-boards and climbing ladders. They are invoking some EU regulations and are worried about being sued should a client get injured while he is working inside their compound.

As for the ladder/platform thingies, I was tempted by a Lidl offering (around €80, IIRC) some years ago. unfortunately the platform height was only 90cms and that was not enough for me to reach the toerail because the bows are close to 3metres above the ground, Also, the platform was too narrow for me to feel comfortable.

I have a platform ladder from Access Solutions. Make sure you get the four rung and also the hand rail as it adds a great deal of security. It looks very similar to the one from Maplin and comes with steel plates to lay on the horizontal sections, which should be kind to your feet. Currently in sale at £99.

Last winter I compounded my top sides using the Clarke 4 in 1 scaffold ladder. It is very sturdy and stable plus good value for money at £95.98. Also available from their many stores or can be delivered at extra cost.

+1 on these I have one and worth every penny, you can get a cheaper version on ebay such as this one:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4-Way-Mul...0954?pt=UK_H_G_Ladders_RL&hash=item1c49897aea

Excellent news John, now do the same with non PBO & Scuttlebutt threads that are in the wrong place, we might then get some of that Noo blood in here

Just report them and I will have a look. I haven't got time to go through all the various forums; I have to do some work!!! Just trying to keep up with the lounge seems to take all my time at the moment!
