The sail is in good condition but the UV strip stitching is frayed and needs completely redoing.
I would be grateful for recommendations for such a job anywhere between Yarmouth and Ipswich.
Thanks in anticipation.

Between Yarmouth and Ipswich you're spoilt for good sailmakers and the job you want done is bread and butter to any of them. While restitching the UV strip, it's worth considering how much sun it has seen and whether to replace it completely. I don't suppose that would cost much more than restitching the old one, which may not have many years life left in it.

Peter.

Where exactly do you live? There are several who can do the job & most are more than capable of simple repairs. It makes sense to use the nearest, so that you can just call in with the sail & have a face to face chat.
My go to for repairs is Lonton & Gray in Burnham on Crouch. I have sails & covers etc made by them as well. Ian Gray has been making sails for decades & is a fairly accomplished Dragon sailor. One of the first to introduce laser cutting sail cloth into the UK.

I had a quote recently from this company for 1) adding a sunstrip to genoa and b) adding a third reef to a crosscut main, and both numbers were what I considered to be a go away price.
For some reason all the quotes that I have seen reported for sunstrip renewal have been extremely high. In a couple of cases the owners have just decided to buy new sails. Even when getting quotes for new sails, if it is quoted as an extra, it always seems high.

Hi Dave
I would also get a few quotes from reputable and well known companies. I got some really good advice and recommendations on this site regarding boat covers suppliers last year but I was shocked at the price difference between highest and lowest, It was near double the price about £4,000 more. I went with a well known maker locally who came in about the middle of the two. I had also seen their work on a couple of boats in the marina and liked the quality of the work. I'ts a pain getting more than one quote but is saves you paying over the odds.
