Recommend me: (very) low profile Latching 12V switch (ideally with LED) SPST

Hi,

Want to make a bulkhead mounted switch panel. Bulkhead mounted is the key term. I do not want to make a cutout. I would want to have four or so low profile 12V latching switches. Virtual bonus points if these can have an LED to show if on (closed) or not. I have been looking for switches I could just "stick" to something and have the wires out the side to be able to switch a thing.

Needs to be low profile so that I can mount it in say a thick bit of wood (e.g. two bits of plywood glued together) so that I can attach this to a bulkhead and only make the hole for the cables. A decent (IP65/67/68) rating would be a bonus.

Googling seems to have failed me, and the only really low profile switches (ie 15mm recess or so) are momentary; L22U Series Short Body 50mA 24vdc Anti Vandal Switch

This is to switch 12V LED strip lights, so low current (1A?) and 12V. Imagine an engine room light or similar.

Thoughts, ideas welcome!

As you have found, all decent latching switches need depth to accommodate the mechanism. The only ones I know about are these below which are not really suitable for marine use. If I was going to the trouble of making a panel I would probably want reasonable quality switches that would last.
Could you find a suitable box about 25mm deep that would accommodate a slightly deeper switch? Most switches only have an IP rating from the front so waterproofing the rear in a box is often a good idea. enclosures

They might be expensive because I saw your submission and only searched for anti-vandal ones. There may be other sections of Farnell's site with switches that allow you to filter by "low profile" and "latching". I also just found this - if you look at the data sheet it's available in red or green.

Farnel and others at least have decent descriptions/datasheets. I got excited earlier on ebay and amazon on finding low profile “latching” switches only to find they are actually momentary ones. Grh.

The other way would be to use a non latching push button switching a latching relay

Can you recommend any - ideally tiny, with four channels? To switch 1A 12V max (LED strip lights).

I have found some very, very low profile momentary switches that would need a relay.

The latching relays usually require a reverse polarity pulse to reset or have a second reset coil. This is difficult to arrange with a SPST push switch. You could add some electronics to do the switching but this will draw a small standing current. There are some modules that Roger has linked to above that would achieve this but it is getting rather complicated.

I prefer to buy a board like in @rogerthebodger last link. Not sure I can face making a board for this (yet).

That should work in self-locking mode. There is a link to the manual at the bottom of the link.

It will draw a constant 22mA even when not in use which should be OK as long as you switch it off when you leave the boat.
