I'm beginning to get annoyed with a cheap Sealey grease gun that doesn't seem to pump grease properly even though its full. Are there any decent makes out there? It's just for light duty stuff such as the outboard and trailer points. Cheers

Whatever happened to those grease guns that looked like little fat-bodied pistols with just a push-action to operate, none of these bulky and clumsy levers?
Far too simple and effective for modern times!

Still, I was astonished to read that modern manual grease guns can achieve pressures from 2000 to over 10,000psi!
Er .... why???

The Wanner gun shown in #8 is a pain in the butt. I have had mine for over 50 years. It has to be filled with grease from a large container which is almost impossible to do without trapping air pockets &getting smothered in grease. Refills are awkward to obtain so cannot be used plus the washer would need changing.
It does get high pressure when working properly which is why I keep it. But for every day use -forget it-too much hassle
However, it is well made so a full sized one taking standard cartridges would probably be expensive but a good tool to have

i have the same problem with a Sealey gun and no longer use it. I bought a Wanner on eBay for (I think) about £11 and it just works. OK, a bit messy to re-fill but unless it’s in daily use, not a problem really. I have two actually, one was Dad’s and must be well over 50 years old, and the recently purchased one on the boat. Both work perfectly, every time.

I bought a Wanner grease gun just like that one in about 1965. Pretty expensive at the time but I still have it and use it on my tractor and MG A.
I have one like that also . It must be somewhere in my garage which is overflowing with stuff.
For my boat the only grease points are for the steering . I find a bigger grease gun with a flexible hose better suited to that particular job. Which reminds me I should do so.

If you can find one buy a grease tub like the image below which has a disc with a hole in it. Invert the opened end of the grease gun an press down. This fills the grease gun with little or no mess. I have retained an old tub as not all grease tubs come with the disc.

The main problem with grease and grease guns is as noted above, getting the excess air out and / or filling the gun with grease without any entrapped air pockets. The simple solution is buy your grease in cartridges and have a gun that suits the common sizes. Simples, each cartridge needs a quick bleed when first fitted but there after invariably it's air and trouble free
