That's a pretty flimsy reason to retain old technology; in any case it's not clear the battery is NiMH or NiCd, if the latter a new charger will be needed anyway.
I am not one to knock Chinese products but my experience with batteries is that they have no idea or morals as to what AH rating means. I have bought d cells claiming to be 13000 maH to find that they actually have maybe 2 AH.A quick Google brings up these but depending on how attached to your torch you are, I,d look for a new one with an LED rather than heavy batteries and a power supping incandescent bulb.

You might find a replacement led bulb also. I bought one recently for my old long lost petzel headtorch. Thanks for this. I use Components Shop for model aeroplane battery packs and I’d already noted them. However, I’m not overly keen on rebuilding the pack myself.
It’s a dive torch and proven waterproof to silly depth, unlike a cheap and cheerful LED light selling on eBay.
It makes me incandescent with rage that I’d have to throw away a perfectly good light simply because I can’t put new batteries in it ???
I was looking for recommendations of companies that make a buck out of my reluctance to diy. Google has found one or two but I was hoping for first hand experiences.
Not everything 21st century is worthy of ownership. Somethings are “good enough” and don’t need to be changed.
Greta would be proud of me ?
I’m not planning to save the planet and I don’t want to repurpose the torch. I simply want to replace worn out rechargeable batteries. If you're keen to save the planet and repurpose your existing torch, then you'll know from your modelling experience that Overlander are probably one of the best examples of businesses excelling at this technology.

Much appreciated but these lamps are, I think, a newer model than mine and use C, not D cells. At that price I’m being pushed over the edge towards diy ?From UK, but at a price!

This would make a worthy improvement. Any suggestions for a supplier website? You might find a replacement led bulb also. I bought one recently for my old long lost petzel headtorch.
Thank you.You got me thinking about replacing my old UK mini Q40 bulb

They also have this double bulb replacement, which might fit your torch.

I found mine on Amazon...I identified the bulb type and then just searched on that...it is an old style screw in torch bulb base...works a treat in what was really a crap light originally (I will eventually put the bulb into a petzel zoom head torch that has two bulbs and a switch over switch like yours has,I bought the zoomThis would make a worthy improvement. The torch has two bulbs with different intensities. Turn the switch to the left puts one bulb in circuit, switch to right puts the other. How’s that for technology ?
