840307 is described on the VP site as a "flange bearing" and is "no longer produced". Maybe the new bearing style is what you have to fit?
No progress.
Parts arrived from Marine Parts Europe with wrong bearing in the main bearing kit.
They say they cannot supply the correct kit untill July.
Tried a local Penta agent. Says he can supply but cannot return if same problem occurs unless I wait untill June.
Any one know were I might get the 875750 kit as outlined in the diagram.
The flanged bearing is the old one. The other is as supplied as part of the kit. Obviously not as per the diagram which come from the online penta 2002 parts catalog. Incidential both shells carry the same part number 840307?
Have a look on youtube for supergreenmac - volvo penta rebuild - he rebuilt a VP2010 last winter

The bearings at each end of the crankcase have a built in thrust washer, whereas the bearings that are not at the ends are plain. Sorry I can't help with suggesting any source other than those already mentioned.
Disaster!
Broke the oil sweeper piston ring while trying to fit it into the piston.
Looks like I need to make up a sleeve to compress it before it will go.
New set ordered from Repower at half the cost of original Volvo spares so time to make something up. Wouldn't normaly use cheaper non original spares in critical areas but I reckon the oil ring will be ok below the Volvo compression rings.
On the plus side discovered the valve deterioration is likely caused by gas escape from imperfect seating so have given them a touch up with the fine paste.
Hope to get cracking with the rebuild as soon the new ring set lands here in Puerto Guardamar.
You can get proper piston ring compressor tools, or try the method I used in the rebuild of my 2001, which was to use a large jubilee hose clip. A bit fiddly compared to the correct tool, but it did the trick.
Should have read piston bore.Disaster!

4 pieces of thin shim material, couple inches long, half inch wide. Slide ring down the piston over shims and withdraw shims when ring is alligned with groove. Fizy drinks can is good, thin and ready made radius to fit circumference of piston.
Spot on. The new rings arrived this morning. All fitted handy enough with a good sized jubilie clip. You can get proper piston ring compressor tools, or try the method I used in the rebuild of my 2001, which was to use a large jubilee hose clip.
