Would you also re-call all those who have moved abroad (especially Spain) who cannot speak the language of the nation they have moved into, and so have to live in 'English villages'?
I don't think they have to live in "English" villages, not learning the language of your host country is a choice.
When we lived in France we stayed at a Gite run by an English couple who were paying a local English company to read and translate their mail, make 'phone calls etc all at £35 a pop - looked like easy money.
I agree - but read the post I was replying to! You can't have it both ways.
I have employed many 'foreign nationals' in the past, many who speak very little English at the start. However, the majority have been very courteous, willing and able to work, unlike many of their 'English' counterparts.
All I really really really want is ONE really decent pub/ resturant with all tide access to the river, and no, do not mean a half mile long slimey mud covered weed infested slipway(both on Swale) a 1/2 mile row followed by scramble over sea wall (Harty)or you have exactly 30 mins sir to eat drink and get your boat off our landing(All tide Sheppey).
Up river the delights of two very dodgy piers (Sun pier,Thugs and thieves)(Ship pier, err ladeez of the night) or Rochester the only respectable pier that does not resemble the Titanic(after being under water for 50 years)(shuts at blurry sunset.Strood pier has long gone.
We gave a better seafaring welcome to the Dutch when they sailed up and burnt our Fleet at Gyllingham.
One long history of neglect and decline, lets just hope we get some decent visitor on river mooring and open our eyes to the opportunity under our noses from visitors from abroad.

If they want to be British first and foremost - OK. if they're trying to overrule and overrun us then I'm with alb40. Weak minded Britons have got us to this present state

and judging from your posts you are weak-minded indeed.
You cannot have any attempt at equality in a society that only ever worries about the minorites - the majority have rights too, or at least they used to.
couldn't agree more , I come in here to read and learn about sailing stuff , if I want to read this sort of thread I go to the lounge , come on guys , take it outside
Dave, this started as a boaty thread about the Mudway; an area I have very fond memories of. As with many of my posts it was intended to be fairly light hearted; some of the comments above are unacceptable to me and were not going to go unremarked.
