I am thinking of using Arbomast as a sealant. Is there any reason not to do this?
It's as good as anything for sealing the hatch assembly to the deck.
Not sure what you mean?
Do you mean it's good for sealing the acrylic to the hatch ... or for adhering the hatch assembly to the deck?
Any good sealant is what you require for the acrylic panel to the hatch such as http://http://www.force4.co.uk/dow-corning-marine-silicone-sealant-78g-m.html?utm_source=google_shopping&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIi_rMrYyM1gIVQbgbCh1hYAFYEAQYCCABEgIiwvD_BwE#.Wa2S-ct4WhA
Should do the trick.

Also do a 'dry' fit and mask of the surrounding area.Abromast is the right stuff. Just make sure you have lots of solvent and rags to wipe the excess away.
I'm rebedding a new acrylic lens in my lewmar hatch. Most of what I've red about sealing is pointing at DOW 795 as the best ( between the lens edge and aluminum frame) , but the problem is that I cannot buy it in Sweden, where I live. Amazon has it but cannot deliver to sweden due to shipping restrictions. Any idea ?
I used pu18. I thought it was wonderful stuff to work with but had to do it all again. It didn't stick to either the acrylic or the aluminium frame, cant rember which. Did it all again with ct1. Much better result.
It's possible, I never thought about that. I thought at the time I had removed all traces of the old sealer. Should PU18 stick to Aluminium and acrylic? If it was originally bedded on silicone rubber, which I believe many are, a new adhesive may not adhere or may even not cure. Could it be that you cleaned up better the second time?
I fitted a new hatch at the end of last summer and used butyl tape which was for me easier than using a mastic gun. It comes in various thicknesses and widths and I
purchased mine off e bay. I used a 3mm thick roll and i cut it to shape, stuck it to the underside of the hatch frame and then peeled off the backing paper. I cut small pieces for the corners.
