VP AQ270 outdrive with the electro- mechnical lift mechanism.

I had it repaired a while back and now its just refusing to move .. you can hear the directional solenoid clicking ... but the motor fails to start turning .. and the worm drive therefore is not functioning.

Looks like call the guy in again ...

You are brave .

Maybe ... it cost ~ 600 quid .... less than half the cost of refurbed 2nd hand unit I also found.

The seller is a Marine Reclamation Company who break up boats and sell off the parts.

I decided to go for it as the unit I have was already repaired last year ... and has failed again. This way - I hope I have enough between the two to get all working again.

When we trailered boat out - the lift worked ... but when I went to let outdrive down at home after parking the boat for winter ... the solenoid clicked - but nothing else happened. Its possible that the push rod may have bent - got stuck ...

Once weather warms up a bit - I shall remove the old unit and bench test it ...

The one I just ordered from USA - of course will be bench tested when it arrives .. if works - its advertised as fully working unit - it will be fitted and old remain as spares.

Been there, got the "T" shirt.
Bought in a few secondhand VP leg bits only available over there simply due to the size of the market.
No local sales tax on goods by seller but importing from the USA to the UK involves paying UK VAT about 20% ?
Have you factored in all the costs inc import duties and VAT on top of everything..... inc carriage and shipping, payable before they will release it from the customs warehouse.
Hopefully the shipper will have sorted this all out pre dispatch.
Was not aware this was due until received an email from customs stating goods awaiting collection and demanding £ XYZ due before release.

Even when buying goods from the UK we have to pay duty and VAT on top of the item cost + delivery
Still buying a VHF in the UK from MSS, paying duty etc. reprograming for VDES, it was still more than €100 cheaper than buying the same item in Belgium

With what I saved it got me a hand held VHF basically for free, also from MSS both delivered at the same time.

Are you definitely sure and its not electrical connections / wires ? - Just saying as you reported on here have battery and starter issues.

Had the problem with new 700 hp CAT Engine.
Cruising speed revs dropping to tickocer then stopping happened several times during journey but would restart.
Endoscope in tank revealed plastic inlet blanking cap loose in tank.
Bugger wrong thread!
Mods can you move to fuel cap post

No I'm not sure ... but having had it repaired before - I decided getting a second unit might be a good standby ...

Its too cold out there to go on board and remove the old ... temps are running anywhere from -16 to -5C ......

Today - weather was blue sky .. 5C ... forecast is for dry weather next few days ... opened up flaps on the cockpit cover of my Primor 24 ... removed engine hatch covers .. let it all air out ...

While there - I thought to try the leg lift ... it worked !! but very slow as if battery was low .. but batterys (both) are good at storage level via the Victron BT charger ..
Turned key and batterys span the 3 litre 6 cyl VP over - so no problem with the batterys.

Tried again ... but nothing happened ... flicked switch a number of times and it would work - very slow .. then nothing ..

Think it may be a wiring / contact problem .... I have whole replacement leg lift system if needed.

My Guy is working on the starter tomorrow ... a never ending problem ... so maybe once that's had its bolts replaced and re-aligned .... then he can have a go at the leg lift wiring ....

I'd do it all myself - but the Stomach Ulcer / Cancer really gives me gyp when bent over into cramped space ..
